Quick Hands Hockey is designed to give you fast, accurate stickhandling training using your phone’s camera. Follow the steps below to get the best tracking and performance.
1. Set Up Your Playing Area
Place a white playing surface on the floor. This can be a shooting pad or synthetic ice sheet.
Make sure the surface is clean and free of dust or marks.
Use a black or dark-colored hockey puck.
High contrast between the puck and the surface is essential for accurate tracking.
2. Position Your Phone
Mount your phone on a tripod or stand.
- Height: 2–3 feet off the ground
- Position: Directly in front of the playing surface
- Angle: Pointed straight at the pad (not tilted)
The entire white surface should be visible in the camera view.
Avoid any movement or vibration once the phone is positioned.
3. Lighting and Environment
Good lighting is critical.
- Use bright, even overhead lighting
- Avoid strong shadows on the playing surface
- Minimize reflections from glossy floors or windows
- Remove other dark objects from the tracking area
A clean, uncluttered view improves tracking accuracy.
4. Casting to a TV (Optional)
For a bigger display, you can mirror your screen:
Option 1: HDMI Adapter
Connect your phone to your TV using an HDMI adapter.
Option 2: AirPlay / Screen Casting
Mirror your phone to a smart TV, Apple TV, or another Apple device.
Casting is optional, but recommended for easier visibility during drills.
5. Calibrate the Playing Area
Open Quick Hands Hockey and begin calibration.
Use the sliders to define the playing area:
- Adjust until only the white surface is highlighted
- Exclude floors, walls, or surrounding objects
When calibration is correct, you’ll see a green indicator.
Green means you’re at optimal tracking.
6. Start Training
Once calibrated, tap Start and begin your drills.
Keep the puck:
- On the white surface
- Within the defined play area
If tracking becomes inconsistent:
- Check lighting
- Remove shadows or objects
- Re-center the pad
- Re-run calibration
Tips for Best Results
- Recalibrate if you move the phone or pad
- Use consistent lighting every session
- Keep the play area simple and uncluttered
- Avoid patterned or colored surfaces
You’re Ready to Play
Quick Hands Hockey is built for fast setup and repeatable training.
Once your environment is dialed in, you can focus on speed, control, and reaction time.
